Yangzi Petrochemical – BASF launches second plant of propionic acid production plant in Nanjing, Chi

Chairman of Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and Chairman of Yangzi Petrochemical-BASF Co., Ltd. said: “Sinopec and BASF have cooperated closely and successfully launched the second propionic acid plant. The production of the plant has satisfied the market in the food safety field. The need is also in line with the reform strategy focus of the Chinese government to promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing during the two sessions this year."



BASF Asia Pacific Senior Vice President of the Intermediates Business Unit said: “With the increase in population and living standards in Asia, the demand for food and feed is increasing, driving the consumption of propionic acid. Other industries such as medicine and agriculture are also growing. Promoting our production of propionic acid in the region. Propionic acid is an ecologically demanding and highly effective preservative commonly used in animal feed and food additives. We will better support other companies in China and Asia through new capacity. Regional customer growth."

Propionic acid can be used as a mold inhibitor for the storage of food and feed grains, and its economic and ecological benefits are much higher than those by drying or storage in airtight storage. Propionic acid is also widely used in the production of pharmaceuticals, crop protection products, solvents and thermoplastics.
